Divide County, North Dakota

In November, 1910, a successful vote was taken by the citizens of Williams County to divide into two counties:

  • Divide County to the north – adjacent to the Canadian border,
    and
  • Williams County to the south.

On December 9, 1910, Divide County, North Dakota was officially formed.

The name Divide County may be attributed:

  • in part to the 1910 division vote,
    and
  • in part to the fact that the continental divide lies within the county which separates:
    • the southern watershed flow into the Gulf of Mexico,
    • from the northern flow into Hudson Bay.

Divide County, North Dakota extends south from the Canadian border to Williams County, and is bordered on the west by Montana, and on the east by Burke County.

2012 Per Capita Income

As of 2012, the per capita personal income of Divide County, North Dakota was $70,915.

2010 Population

As of the 2010 Census, the population of Divide County, North Dakota was 2,071.

County Seat – Crosby

The city of Crosby is the county seat, and the county’s largest city, with a population of 1,070 as of the 2010 Census.

2000 Ancestry Composition

As of the 2000 Census, Divide County, North Dakota residents had the following identified ancestral heritage:

  • 64.7% Norwegian;
  • 24.0% German;
  • 8.8% Swedish;
    and
  • 5.9% Irish.
