Golden Valley County, North Dakota

Golden Valley County, North Dakota

Golden Valley County was originally part of Billings County. Although its voters elected to separate from Billings County in 1910, litigation delayed the formal organization of Golden Valley County until 1912.

While the Golden Valley name began to be used in 1902 because of the sunlight reflecting off of the area’s grass, the surrounding territory was often known as Rattlesnake Flats, due to the large number of the snakes found in the area.

Golden Valley County is bordered:

  • on the north by McKenzie County,
  • on the west by Montana,
  • on the south by Slope County, and
  • on the east by Billings County.
