Mercer County, North Dakota is bordered:

  • on the north by McLean County,
  • on the west by Dunn County,
  • on the south by Oliver County and Morton County, and
  • on the east by Sheridan County, McLean County and Oliver County.

Mercer County, North Dakota was named for William Henry Harrison Mercer, a rancher who settled around Bismarck in 1869.

As of 2012, the per capita personal income of Mercer County, North Dakota was $49,650.

2010 Population

As of the 2010 Census, the population of Mercer County, North Dakota was 8,424.

County Seat – Stranton

Stranton is the county seat, and the county’s third largest city, with a population of 366 as of the 2010 Census.

The largest city in the county is Beulah, with a population of 3,121 as of the 2010 Census.

2000 Ancestry Composition

As of the 2000 Census, Mercer County residents had the following identified ancestral heritage:

  • 68.8% German; and
  • 8.2% Norwegian.

2013 Drilling Activities

As of November 30, 2013, there were no active drilling rigs operating in Mercer County.
